Grey's Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes is filling up her calendar quickly these days. Back in August she sold an 1800s hotel drama called Gilded Lillys to ABC. Now Deadline is reporting that Rhimes has landed another period project at Fox, but this one will be set in a somewhat more recent era: the 1980s.
Written by Diane Ruggiero (The Ex List), Wildwood is a coming-of-age tale about a teenager growing up in an Irish-Italian family in Wildwood, New Jersey. She lies about her age in order to land a summer job at a popular bar on the (*shudder*) Jersey Shore. There will be romance, there will be deception, there will be shit-tons of '80s music.
If Wildwood goes to series, it'll be the first time in a while that Rhimes pops up on a network other than ABC. She's made a name for herself on the Alphabet Network with shows such as Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and Off the Map. She'll be exec producing Wildwood along with Ruggiero and Betsy Beers.
What do you guys think, does Wildwood sound interesting to you? I've never jumped onto the Rhimes bandwagon, and have never seen a full episode of Grey's Anatomy or any of her other shows. However, the '80s setting could make for a good time. I'm a sucker for classic '80s coming-of-age flicks like The Breakfast Club and Say Anything..., so if Rhimes can recreate some of that magic, she might just have something. Then again, those two movies were the offspring of John Hughes and Cameron Crowe, and Shonda Rhimes has not yet proven herself to be a John Hughes or a Cameron Crowe. Stay tuned to TV Blend for more on Wildwood as we hear it.
| Each formed person should love and understand art – the literature, painting, music, cinema. There are people who equally love books, musik , pictures, an opera, films etc. I cannot tell that I concern different displays of art equally ardently. At present priority for me is cinema. The cinema is a surprising art. The cinema is likely the lung for perception and the understanding, the most accessible art. The cinema is a fast art. If to read the book, week film viewing occupies a maximum of hour three is necessary to the average person a minimum. |
